Church Council
Bobby Tester, Chair The Church Council envisions, plans, and implements the mission and ministry of the church, including providing for programs of nurture, outreach, witness, and leadership development/resourcing. The Church Council also provides for the general administration of the church. The Church Council meets regularly on a bi-monthly basis in addition to those special occasions when called upon by the Chairman of the Church Counsel or our pastor. It is the responsibility of the Church Council to review the membership of the local church, fill interim vacancies among the lay officers of the church between sessions of the annual charge conference, establish a budget upon the recommendation of the Committee on Finance, ensure adequate provision for the financial needs of the church, recommend to the charge conference the salary and other remuneration of the pastor and staff members after receiving recommendations from the Staff-Parish Relations Committee, review the recommendation of the Staff-Parish Relations Committee regarding provision of adequate housing for the pastor and report the same to the charge conference for approval. |

Staff-Parish Relations Committee Karen Smith, Chair The Staff-Parish Relations Committee serves as a connection point between the congregation, the church council, and the church staff, including the pastor. Its members engage in biblical and theological reflections on the role and work of the pastor and church staff as they carry out their leadership responsibilities within the church. The SPRC is charged with communicating the church's values and priorities for ministry to the church staff and monitoring their implementation. SPRC confers, consults, and counsels with the pastor and church staff on matters pertaining to the priorities in the uses of gifts, skills, and time as well as the priorities among the demands of the mission and ministry of the congregation. SPRC confers, consults, and counsels with the pastor and church staff pertaining to the effectiveness of the church’s ministry, relationships within the without the congregation, as well as conditions which may impede effective ministry. SPRC works to encourage, strengthen, nurture, support, and respect the pastor, the church staff, and their families. SPRC confers, consults, and counsels with the pastor and church staff concerning issues related to personal and professional wellness, renewal, and development. SPRC consults with the pastor and church staff concerning the needs and expenses of ministry and makes annual recommendations concerning budgetary items to the Committee on Finance. With regards to appointed clergy, SPRC is charged with the responsibility to confer and cooperate with the district superintendent and bishop in securing appropriate clergy leadership. With regards to non-appointed personnel, SPRC is charged with the responsibility of hiring, contracting, evaluating, promoting, retiring, or dismissing all non-appointed church personnel. SPRC meets bi-monthly and as may be specially called by the pastor, a church staff member, the District Superintendent, or the Bishop of the Western North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church. SPRC elects a Vice-Chair, Secretary, as well as Representative to Committee on Finance. |

Board of Trustees
David Smith, Chair The Board of Trustees is responsible holding and administering all real property and personal property of Bunker Hill United Methodist Church. All properties of a local United Methodist church are held, in trust, for the benefit of the Church. This idea, originating in 1797, is a fundamental expression of United Methodism whereby local churches and other agencies and institutions of The United Methodist Church are both held accountable to and benefit from their connection with the entire worldwide Church. The Board of Trustees at Bunker Hill UMC is charged with acquiring, holding, maintaining, improving, and selling church property for purposes consistent with the mission of the Church |

Committee on Nominations and Personnel (Leadership Development)
(also known as Committee on Lay Leadership) Rev. Charles Ireson, Chair The charge of the Committee on Nominations and Personnel (Leadership Development) is to identify, develop, deploy, evaluate, and monitor Christian spiritual leadership at Bunker Hill United Methodist Church. In its work, this committee engages in biblical and theological reflection on the mission and ministries of the church. The committee seeks to identify the spiritual gifts and abilities of the members of the congregation. The committee works with the church staff, church council, and the various committees of the church to determine the diverse ministry tasks of the congregation, the skills needed for leadership, and the availability of laypersons to provide the necessary spiritual and missional leadership. The committee serves as a guide to the church council on matters regarding leadership of the congregation other than employed staff; guides the development and training of spiritual leaders; recruits, nurtures and supports spiritual leaders; and assist the church council in assessing the changing leadership needs. Each year the committee nominates members of the congregation of Bunker Hill UMC to serve as officers and leaders of the church. In each United Methodist Church, the pastor serves as the chairperson of this committee and a layperson elected by the committee serves as the vice chairperson. |

Committee on Finance
Larry Redfearn, Chair The stewardship of the financial resources of the church is the priority and responsibility of the Committee on Finance. All issues concerning the church’s finances must transition through the Committee on Finance prior to final approval or undertaking. Annually, the committee compiles an annual budget and submits it to the Church Council for review and adoption. The committee is responsible for carrying out the direction of the Church Council in guiding the treasurer and financial secretary in the administration of the church’s finances. In doing so, the committee supervises and collects all contributions made to the church, establishes appropriate procedures and policies related to the management of the church’s finances, and makes record of all contributions collected and payments made. As required by UMC church law, the pastor, lay member of annual conference, chairperson of the church council, Stewardship Committee Chair, Lay Leader, Financial Secretary, and Church Treasurer are all members of the Committee on Finance by virtue of their respective offices. Additionally, as required by church law, both the Board of Trustees and the Staff-Parish Relations Committee are required to designate a member of each of their respective committees to serve as a voting representative on the Committee on Finance. Additional member of the Committee on Finance are those members of the church congregation who have been duly nominated to serve by the Committee on Nominations and thereafter duly elected by the the church charge conference. |

Nurture Work Area Team
Sarah Billups, Chair The Nurture Work Area Team is charged with nurturing the spiritual development of the congregation in Christian faith. The nurture team coordinates, plans, carries out, and evaluates the congregation's ministry in the areas of worship, educational experiences, Christian formation, and church member care. This includes church school, small groups, stewardship formation, member visitation, regular worship services, and special worship services. To be effective ministers to our community, the church must also minister to itself and ensure a proper focus on the Christian spiritual development of the members within the congregation. With hospitality and loving care at the core, the various sub-committees that make up the Nurture Committee help care for the needs within our church family. The nurture committee strives to provide opportunities to grow in spiritual life and become better equipped for life as Christian Disciples. |

Worship Ministry Team
Jane Idol, Chair The Worship Ministry Team assists Bunker Hill UMC's appointed pastor/elder in providing effective, meaningful worship experiences at Bunker Hill United Methodist Church. The team coordinates the provision of the communion sacraments, alter paraments, pulpit paraments, hymnals, bibles, attendance registers/pew pads, and other supplies essential to worship. The team also coordinates the lay staffing of ushers, acolytes, sound technicians, lighting technicians, visual art technicians, and alter guild assistants. |
